Will the treatment hurt?

No, the old adage "no pain, no gain" does not apply to the treatment of acute, recurrent or chronic neck or back problems! Patient comfort is paramount and helps to guide the doctor's techniques; moreover, modern techniques have become more refined.  However, like massage, patients will experience a "good-hurt feeling" during trigger point therapy and myofascial release techniques.

Will the doctor adjust my neck (cervical spine)?

No, eck mobilization (not an adjustment) is my treatment of choice for the majority of patients with neck conditions. However, some neck conditions may respond more quickly to adjustments. If clinically indicated, an adjustments in a pain-free direction will be recommended but only performed with patient consent.  Treatment of the cervical spine would only be recommended if you are diagnosed cervical spine-related condition.

How often do I need to come?

Like other medications, manual medicine is dosage dependent.  As such, the dosage / frequency of treatments needs to be sufficient enough to have therapeutic value. Patients are usually seen 2 or 3 times per week until good repair (which brings about pain relief too!) is under way and consequently when exercises will begin to help the strength of repair.  The nature, duration, and severity of your problem typically determines the duration of treatment.  Most often, problems are much better within 2 to 8 weeks of commencing treatment.
